History of Rotary Club of Ibadan Elebu

The Rotary Club of Ibadan Elebu was established in September 2018, with its inaugural meeting held at the VVIP Lounge of Mauve 21 Hotel and Event Center, Adeoyo Ring-Road, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The club's first meeting took place on Saturday, September 15, 2018, with seven members in attendance, where important deliberations about the club's formation and future were conducted. Recognizing the absence of Rotary International in the thriving community of experts in Ibadan Elebu Metropolis, the idea of forming the club was initiated by discussions involving notable Rotarians such as Adekunle Adegboro (then President-Elect of Rotary Club of Ibadan Ring-Road), Rotarian Wale Bogunjoko (a Bank Manager at FCMB at that time), and Past Assistant Governor Olatunji Oladunni.

Service Projects

Since its inception, the Rotary Club of Ibadan Elebu has undertaken numerous humanitarian service projects. The Charter President, Rotarian Idowu Olugbenga Adewumi, spearheaded over forty-one projects during his tenure. The club's first project was a women's empowerment initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Femi Showemimo Foundation in the United Kingdom. This project, anchored by CeeCee Chikito of Freshfm 105.9 Ibadan, sensitized and empowered over 350 women at Eyini Grammar School, Orita Challenge, Ibadan. The club, even as a provisional entity, has consistently focused on Rotary International's seven areas of focus, earning recognition and awards both locally and internationally. The club was officially chartered on November 12, 2018, under the leadership of Past District Governor Elvis Chukwu, becoming one of the fastest clubs to receive its charter certificate from Rotary International, thanks to the experience and dedication of Rotarian Idowu Adewumi.

Membership

The club's membership has grown from the initial seven members at the inaugural meeting to twenty-two, with an additional ten prospective Rotarians.
